Wishing you a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year. I hope this year we will have fewer natural disasters, wars, and shootings and instead see more love and compassion in this world.

Every year I look back at what worked for me, what memories I created, what new friendships I gained, and what my most nostalgic moments were. Every year I have also been hard on myself looking at the list of  “ could have done better” and “should have done better” lists. This year I’m taking a new approach and patting myself on the back and creating a list of things that I did well. (Thanks to Matthew Kimberly)

This year, my biggest achievement  was balancing my work with  appreciating & spending time with my family. They say you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. This year, I tried to better myself personally, professionally, and physically by surrounding myself with great people.

My family had some quality time together on two vacations this year. One was a trip to Canada, where I got to be with my husband and son and experience new things with them. To close the year, we spent Christmas & New Year’s Eve with our families in India. I felt very fortunate to end 2015 with our family and start off the New Year getting blessings from our parents. One of the moments that I will treasure forever is celebrating my wonderful mother-in-law’s birthday and seeing her face light up. We also had some excellent get-togethers with our cousins, who took the time and effort to come under one roof so that we could all spend some time together. It can be very difficult to visit everyone over a short period of time, and both my husband and I wanted to see and stay in touch with our cousins whom we grew up with. It was incredibly touching to see that they were willing to take time to spend with us all together.

Although I got to see a lot of family over the course of my trip, I also became closer with my teenage son. He usually gives me quite a bit of heartache when it comes to food, as he can be very picky. At home, I try to vary our food during the week, including North Indian, South Indian, Italian, Mexican, and more. Food is such an interesting insight into culture and can even vary by household! Although my husband and I love this, my son is often less excited about the variety. While we were in India, though, he ate everything that was given to him. I was so relieved that he didn’t make a fuss.

Besides my vacations, I also took some time off from work this year to be with my Guru. These days brought clarity to my life and purpose, and encouraged me to take a step forward in all aspects of my life.

How do you get clarity? What do you enjoy as a family?

with mportI have also sought to surround myself with business mentors this year. I started my interview series, Koffee Break, through which I get to speak to both successful business owners and people who are living their dreams. They have really influenced me to take more chances and try new things. I was also fortunate enough to attend Heroic Public Speaking with Michael Port and Amy Mead, which changed my life and allowed me to have a new level of confidence in speaking. I also had opportunities to work with various coaches like Matthew Kimberly, Ana Melikian, Paul  McManus & Frank Bria. I was in an accountabilty group with Paul Mc Manus and as a result started blogging, my interview series & realized how attached I was to my hair. Finally, I did a 30-day video challenge with Lou Bortone and Felicia Slattery. This made me more comfortable with the video making process.

Outside of work, I have had a happy and healthy 2015! I’ve only been to the doctor’s office for regular checkups, and my family has also been healthy. My husband and I have started playing pickle ball, which is a lot of fun and allows us to exercise. Through that, we have also met a bunch of very nice people who want to have fun and stay healthy—and win. I feel like every aspect of my life has enjoyed some sort of victory this year, whether that be in business, family, or personal growth.

What were your victories this past year and how did you celebrate?

I have always enjoyed watching TV. It helps me relax and take my mind off any worries. I’ve been hooked on Chicago Fire and Chicago Cops, and now I’m adding Chicago Meds to the list. Do you know what I like about the series? The fact that the whole team has each other’s back, and they treat each other as family. Makes me feel warm & fuzzy.

Whether we are traveling, playing pickle ball, eating new foods, or just relaxing to watch TV, I have loved getting to spend time with my family this year and I intend to continue to do so in 2016. I also hope to build stronger relationships with my second family—my clients. Spending time together, building relationships, and helping each other to grow are all important parts of being a family.

What are your goals for 2016?

Here’s hoping you had a great New Year’s and continue to grow with your family.
