Lighting is such an important element in design. Lighting can really make or break your room. Most people don’t give enough thought to lighting. Some of the older homes usually don’t have any lighting. Lighting depended on the amount of windows you had & the table or floor lamps which you used.  Nowadays its common to put in the overhead can lights. While its not a decorative feature, it certainly adds function to any room. A well lit room usually has lights in different levels. This also adds to the drama of the room.

There are 3 main kinds of lighting to keep in mind:

Having a central source of ambient light in all rooms is fundamental to a good lighting plan.

It can be provided by recessed and track lighting, pendant lighting and under cabinet lighting, as well as by portable floor and desk lamps.

3) Accent lighting adds drama to a room by creating visual interest. As part of an interior design scheme, it is used to draw the eye to houseplants, paintings, sculptures and other prized possessions. It can also be used to highlight the texture of a brick or stone wall, window treatments or outdoor landscaping.
