Color trends in design starts with the pantone colors. Lets go through a journey of the color trends in the past couple of years starting with 2010 to 2014, the present year.
The color for 2010 was Turquoise
It’s still a favorite among a lot of people. It is believed to be a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that Turquoise represents an escape to many – taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy.”
Turquoise has always been a stone associated with Native American Indians. Legend has it that the Native American Indians danced and rejoiced when the rains came. Their tears of joy mixed with the rain and seeped into Mother Earth to become SkyStone Turquoise.
Pantone color of 2011- Honey Suckle
A dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life.
Which girl wouldn’t like to have this room for her dressing room? Ultimate feminine color.
Pantone color of 2012- Tangerine Tango
Another bold color. Sophisticated, dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenalin rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.
Orange has always been one of my favorites. Everyone has a different outlook to color. To my son, it represents a basketball. To me it represents spirituality. Sages in India are known to wear Saffron robes. In Hinduism, Saffron is the color of fire. Fire burns away darkness & brings light or knowledge by burning ignorance. In Buddhism, saffron is the color of illumination, the highest state of perfection.
Pantone color of 2013- Emerald Green
In several cultures the emerald was the symbol for fertilizing rain. In the Christian faith it is the symbol of faith and hope. the green on the Indian flag means faith and fertility. Emerald is a stone which is used to heal hearts & any disease of the eye. Emerald is a stone of great harmony, wisdom and love.
Pantone color of 2014 – Radiant Orchid
This is a bold color, sort of like today’s women. It says I can stand on my own, confident, commanding somewhat of a rebel. A little color can go a long way. This color would look great with neutrals especially whites, creams, greys, blacks.
The pink and lavender undertones in Radiant Orchid make it a very calming color without being boring. You can use it in a bedroom or a powder room & get a spa like feel without making it boring.
A good color to use as wedding themes as it can be so romantic.
All the colors from 2010 has been bold colors. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that you cannot tone it down & use it. Its easy to just keep getting a total different look by changing out your pillows & accessories. You will never get tired of how your home would look & it gives so much personality to your home. I love to keep changing stuff in my home.
