Before we actually get into the counter stools and bar stools, lets briefly look at why

Everyone whom I speak to nowadays wants an open kitchen. Thankfully few years earlier we redid our kitchen and was able to get my open kitchen with an eat in island.

My son used to sit at the kitchen island and do his home work when he was still little. And I find the island more convenient than using our dining room all the time, especially when its just us.

You & me- we probably have the same kind of lifestyle.  My dining room only gets used when we have company. Our breakfast and dinner is usually at the island. Its so much easier to flip a pancake right to someones plate, isn’t it?

Lets talk a little bit about Counter stool vs Bar stools.

A counter stool is what you use when your counters are 36″. A bar stool is higher and you use that if you have a 2 layer island. Generally I prefer the counter height. But if everyone in your family is tall, maybe you want to have your kitchen island higher.

If you have the sink on the island, a 2 level island can be useful to hide those pots and pans in the sink.  The bar height is set at 40-42″.
